SONY MUSIC AND MELISSA ETHERIDGE TAKE QUANTUM LEAP INTO DIGITAL CINEMA LIVE AND INTERACTIVE ACROSS GERMANY AND HOLLAND

Sony Music International, in conjunction with Quantum Digital, is delighted to announce its debut digital cinema music event in Europe.

The event, which takes place on May 16, features US Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge performing live from Los Angeles and it will be beamed into four cinemas in Germany and a radio station studio in Holland.

Melissa's live performance will be followed by a Q&A with audiences via 2-way audio hosted by live DJ radio presenters. This makes her the first female music artist in the world to play live to cinemas in Europe via satellite and interact with different international audiences. The 30-minute live segment will then be followed by a 78-minute seamless broadcast of music videos from Ms Etheridge's forthcoming music DVD.

"Technology has allowed me to take part in this amazing satellite event," said Etheridge. "Performing live for my fans in Germany and Holland and being able to talk with them directly is very special."

"We are always looking for new ways to promote our artists and digital cinema is a relatively untested medium that we are excited to try out", said Dave MacGregor, Marketing Director, Sony Music International. "The quality of sound and vision is excellent and the interactivity with movie
goers on the other side of the world makes the whole experience really exciting."

The locations and participating exhibitors are Berlin (Cinestar), Hamburg (Cinemaxx), Munich (Cinemaxx) and Cologne (Cinedom). In Holland the venue partner is the Dutch radio station BNN who will host the event at its studio in Hilversum.

The event marks Quantum Digital's first foray outside the UK, where it is currently developing digital cinema opportunities for Odeon cinemas, the UK's largest exhibitor. During 2001/2 Quantum and Odeon successfully tested digital technology and alternative content across the Odeon circuit
including live World Cup soccer screenings, interactive games, pop music, opera and Broadway musicals.

Marc John, Quantum MD, said: "Digital cinema can serve the music industry in new, innovative and highly rewarding ways, both promotionally and commercially. I'm pleased to have been given the chance to work with Sony Music in organising this event and am confident that audiences will embrace
and enjoy what will be quite a unique experience for them."

ODEON DIGITAL CINEMA - THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA

Odeon and Quantum Digital have signed a historic deal which will bring digital cinema into the mainstream, making it an every day reality for the UK public.

Following the recent success of the digital presentation of the Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical hit "Putting It Together", at the Odeon Leicester Square, Odeon and Quantum, under the banner "Odeon Digital Cinema", are planning to host digital cinema events across the country during 2002. Using digital technology, a whole host of exciting events are being planned to incorporate a wide variety of programming, including musicals, pop concerts, major sporting events and children's entertainment.

Odeon is the largest cinema operator in the UK, with 103 cinemas and 597 screens across the country. As a result of the signing of this Commercial Agreement between Odeon and Quantum Digital, Odeon has become the first cinema operator in the world to set up a full time team dedicated to developing digital cinema.

Odeon's Chief Executive, Richard Segal, said "Digital cinema represents an exciting opportunity for Odeon to bring a much wider choice of entertainment to people across the UK. Going forwards, Odeon will have the potential to bring internationally famous events to people's doorstep at affordable prices. Digital cinema will really make high quality entertainment available to all".

Marc John, Managing Director of Quantum Digital, one of the leading UK digital cinema content providers and digital technology integrators, said "At last, the advances in technology are being matched by entrepreneurial vision thanks to Odeon. I have every confidence that in the near future, Odeon's across the UK will have at least one screen dedicated to the digital presentation of alternative content".
